Instructor: Eishi Katsura
Assignments: The Book as Object / The Lumière Rule / Motif Work
“The Book as Object”
Develop multiple perspectives on the book—its materiality, authority, function, and value—re-examine how “the book” has been variously represented and express it as an object from your chosen point of focus.

“The Lumière Rule”
The Lumière brothers, inventors of the cinematograph, worked under technical conditions different from those of today. Under those conditions, produce a group video work, taking primarily improvising bodies as the motif.
Shooting constraints: within 1 minute; black and white; silent; fixed camera; no post-production; no monitoring.

“Motif Work”
Choose one motif—rope, bag, box, or ball—to prompt improvisational bodily movement and complete a group video piece in teams.

Period: June 30–July 11, 2025.
